Starting with Dragon Ball Evolution, the popularity of Live Action shows and movies grow inversely proportional to the satisfaction of the true fans. Soon after that, we had Tokyo Ghoul live action, then Death Note live action. In both, the movies might have sold well, but the reception was terrible. And with TV shows like Titans, yeah, the reviews were mixed. But why were the reviews so bad?
Well, for starters, the trend seems to be that when you try to make something animated a real life movie, it doesn’t work out. The main reason is character design and special traits. When you have a character that is dressed like a witch with a matte skin tone and a defined figure, it’s difficult to recreate that. In the Attack o Titan live action, there wasn’t much need for character designs other than the actual people. The titans were CG, so it didn’t matter. However, when you do a poor job at even CG, then it gives me reason to hate it. You can be bad at character design, but be good at CG. *sigh* but when you’re bad at both, then there’s no excuse. So why do people still MAKE THESE.
Another trend seems to be that the original works are usually originated from the other-realms. Like Japan, China, and Korea. HOWEVER, a recent addition has made its way here in America. Yes, another live action that makes us all want to face palm our selves. What could possibly have made its way here. *massive sigh* Sonic the Hedgehog LiVe AcTiOn MoViE. yAaAaAaAaAYyYyyY. You might be thinking, “wElL eXcUsE mE, but Detective Pikachu also come out this year.” Well yes, but it is technically not live action since half the characters are actually animated Pokemon. With Sonic, Sonic is the only animated character. Therefore, it is live action.
First off with character design. Sonic’s is by far, the worst. He may be tall, he’s taller than modern sonic and classic sonic. They should have made him same as or smaller than classic sonic. He’s too tall, what’s next. OH RIGHT, so you know how EVERY OTHER SONIC’S EYES ARE SORTA CONNECTED, WELL THE PRODUCER SAID NO. We have to make him look ReAlIsTiC because everything else is ReAlIsTiC. This ended up being the worst decision anyone has ever made. So bad that something had to be done!
The fans back lashed at the Sonic movie. They tortured it, tore it, then ripped it apart with nothing left. The hate on Twitter and YouTube has completely decimated the hype and excitement for the movie (not like there was any to begin with). However, there is good news, sorta. The director and everyone else are remaking Sonic’s character so he is more in line with what fans want him to be. I mean, paramount has done an excellent job in the past with characters (like Transformers for example). As a result, I really don’t understand how they messed up so retartedly bad. It does not make any sense. Hopefully they will fix Sonic and make the movie at least a little more decent than it was (so basically not decent whatsoever). Maybe, just maybe it will work. I really don’t care though.
