Why You Should Read the Percy Jackson Series

on March 8, 2019

Why should teens read the Percy Jackson series? There have been several reasons why early to late teenagers have decided to read the several novels Rick Riordan has written for now more than a decade. The first book of the first series begins explaining a troubled ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and dyslexic middle-schooler named Percy Jackson who has been dealing with many things on his mind including his mean step-dad, his Latin Teacher, best friend acting strange, and his teacher turning into a monster.  Suddenly, Percy walks into another side of his bloodline: his father’s side. He soon will learn the Greek gods and goddesses exist including his father, Poseidon, god of the sea. Along with this comes power, magic, and animals, he never thought would have existed. But with all the light comes a great darkness. Kronos, the king of Titanes is rising- quickly. Anyway, Percy finds a camp for kids like him called Camp Half-Blood, for half bloods (a.k.a. demigod), which is a child of a god(or goddesses) and mortal.

So why should teens (even adults) read this series?

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series gives several things to the readers:

  1. The series gives people with disabilities such ADHD and dyslexia strength. At Camp  Half-Blood, the demigods all have both disabilities. The ADHD is their fighting instincts, which keeps them alive during monster attacks. The dyslexia is their brains being meant to read Greek.
  2. The book is SO much better than the movies. If you’ve seen the movies of Percy Jackson,  let’s just say they are all wrong. The books give a whole lot more information and the truth. Even Rick Riordan says the movies were a mistake and ruined his story.
  3. It teaches Greek mythology. While an awesome plot is going on, the author includes Greek historical beliefs. He teaches about the gods, goddesses, and even more that was once believed by Grecians.

There are several other things that could have been said, but I’d be typing a long time if I continued about this super series. I promise it is worth reading.  And don’t watch the movies- they are awful. So why aren’t you reading it yet?
