Red pandas live in the mountains of Nepal and northern Myanmar (Burma), as well as in central China. The red panda is dwarfed by the black and white giant panda. The red panda typically grows to the size of a house cat. Their big bushy tails add 18 inches. The red pandas use their white ringed tail to cover themselves in the chilly mountain heights.

The red pandas spend most of their days in trees and sleep aloft. They are most active at night as well as in the gloaming hours of dusk and dawn. The red pandas have a taste for bamboo, but unlike their larger relatives, they also eat other foods such as fruit, acorns, roots, and eggs. Female red pandas have their young in the spring or summer and typically have up to one to four young.
